Insulation and / or Radiant Barrier?

Insulation is the best investment in terms of value! Our price is $.80 /cu. ft. installed!

Insulation is the most basic, cost-effective way to lower your home's energy usage and improve the comfort level of your home.

Heat flows naturally from a warm place to a cooler space. In the winter, heated air will try to flow to an unheated garage, basement or attic. Conversely, in warm months, heat will try to flow from the outdoors into the cool interior of the home. The majority of this heat transfer in homes takes place in the attic.

It's the role of insulation to prevent this unwanted circulation throughout your home. Combined with proper ventilation and a radiant barrier, proper insulation helps your home maintain a comfortable, uniform temperature throughout the year with significantly less use of heating and cooling systems. As a bonus, insulation can also act as a sound absorber, to help make your home quieter.

Radiant Barrier blocks up to 80% of the Sun's heat from entering your home. Our radiant barrier spray is a high-tech coating that was originally developed by the U.S. military to make their vehicles invisible to heat-seeking missiles. Its remarkable heat-shielding properties make it an ideal radiant barrier for your home or business.

A single, thin coat of our spray applied to the underside of your roof deck will block up to 80% of the sun's radiant heat from entering your home through the attic.

And in winter, the same barrier will reflect back up to 80% of the heat that tries to escape from your home through the attic. Yet unlike foil substrates, our radiant barrier spray can be applied in a matter of hours instead of days. It goes on evenly, with no gaps or holes. And because it is sprayed on, it can easily be applied to existing roofs.

The best radiant barrier is one that is applied to the roof decking prior to having a new roof decking installed. Using foil or metallic sheets is cumbersome and very difficult to install properly. Further, it impedes cell phone and other electronic usage in your building.

Ventilation prevents heat build-up to keep your attic cooler in the Summer, and removes damaging moist air from your attic in the Winter.

You might think that the most energy-efficient attic is one that is sealed tight against outside air but that's not case. Proper attic ventilation is not only required by building codes, its an integral part of The Energy Efficient Attic® solution.

We employ a combination of soffit vents and ridge vents to pull air through the attic. Wind or natural convection pulls air out of the attic through the ridge vents, while replacement air flows in through the soffits. It's a system that works with no moving parts or energy consumption. Depending upon the structure of your roof, other systems may be recommended - we also install wind turbines, air hawks, and a variety of powered and solar-powered vents.

In warm months, adequate attic ventilation prevents heat build-up in the attic, thereby reducing the load on your cooling system. In colder weather, it serves to pull out the warm, moist air generated by your laundry, showers, cooking, etc. (3-5 gallons per day - or more). If not vented, this moisture can condense on cooler solid surfaces and drip - becoming trapped in roofing and insulation, which can cause extensive damage.

Proper attic ventilation also contributes to the performance of insulation and radiant barrier spray. The results are added comfort in all seasons, reduced energy consumption throughout the year and the prevention of damage to your home.

Solar powered vents are the most desirable and can be installed from units off the shelf at The Home Depot or Lowes Home Centers. The Lowes and HD units are comparably priced but the Lowes unit is a better value with a stronger warranty and it moves almost twice as much air per minute! They cost about $287 and can be installed complete for about $$599.
